The Friends of the Palos Heights Library aid in developing a public understanding of our library and making it better known to the citizens of this community. Your annual membership dues ($5 individual and $10 for a family) help in so many ways. For example,

  • Friends provide funds to the library that would not otherwise be available through membership dues, special contributions, Book Store, and the ever popular book sales held in February and August.
  • The majority of the proceeds are used to benefit the library – book carts, equipment, books, materials, and other necessities to assist in the library’s operation.
  • Friends donate their time and hard work in the library’s various programs and services. For example,
    • Sorting and stocking book donations for the Book Store and coordinating the book sales currently held in February and August.
    • Provide a paperback exchange at the Palos Heights Metra station for commuters.
    • Regularly provide free reading materials for the little “free libraries” – at the Art Park and at Lake Katherine.
    • Paperbacks are now being distributed by the Palos Community Hospital’s Volunteer Services Department for those patients requesting reading material.
    • Annually host “Christmastime in Palos” with Santa and other holiday entertainment in December.

As you can see, joining as a Friend gives you an opportunity to show your support for the library and its services! Please join now by giving the completed membership form (available at the front desk and inside the Book Store) to the front desk with your payment.

The Friends of the Palos Heights Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

Friends of the Library Meetings

Our meetings occur on the second Wednesday in the months of January, March, May, September, and November usually at 3 p.m. in the Conference Room unless otherwise scheduled. We welcome you to join, share your ideas and become a volunteer when able!

Sharing Our Resources with the Community

Reading material that is made freely to the community are our two ‘free lending libraries.’ One is located at Art Garden and the other is at Lake Katherine.

Friends continue to periodically stock paperbacks at the Palos Heights Metra train station for the commuter’s reading enjoyment. Commuters are also encouraged to use this forum as a paperback exchange if desired.

Other donated reading material are also given to the Palos Community Hospital’s Volunteer Services Department for those patients requesting reading material. We are happy to be able to provide this new service.
